For any lawn, whether you decide to seed it or lay sod on it, requires the same preparation for a healthy and sustainable lawn. We strongly recommend the addition of organics back into the soil at a rate of 25% to 35% by volume of compost to native soil and till at a depth of 10 to 12 inches. Compost will add valuable organic matter and long term nutrition to the soil that maintains healthy microbial populations to support sustainable plant growth. It is extremely important that you build a healthy soil before you start any landscape project. It’s the very foundation that supports everything you do from thereafter.

In addition, plan for good drainage so that water does not build up in areas of the lawn, especially during winter months. Our Landscape Division can help you with a proper plan and irrigation system that will conserve water and provide the proper water needs and drainage for your specific plants and location.
