What’s the difference between Premium Bark and BeautiBark™?

Rexius carries 2 "premium" barks, Premium Bark-o-Mulch (Fir) and Premium Hemlock Bark. Both premium barks are uniformly processed mulches that are 3/4 inch minus in sizing. These give you a smooth finished appearance in the landscape. BeautiBark™ is a fir bark that is a fine grind. It performs well and looks nice, but may not be as consistent of a product as the premium grades.

What soil should I use?

Rexius has recently re-designed its soil mixes in order to perform well for specific uses. We carry three soils that have three different uses as stated below.

  • Flower n' Garden Planting Soil (100% organic) – Use for flower and vegetable gardens.
  • Tree-n-Shrub Planting Soil (100% organic) – Use for planting shrubs and trees.
  • Premium Turf Start – Designed specifically for laying sod or planting seed lawns.

All Rexius soils can be blown in place or blown with seed injected in only one simple application. No more wheelbarrows!

Are commercial fertilizers used in your compost and soil?

Rexius has made large strides in recent years to make as many as possible of our products 100% organic. All Rexius mulches are 100% organic including the compost and soil products such as Flower n' Garden Planting Soil, Tree-n-Shrub Planting Soil, Garden Compost, Garden Mulch, Chicken Compost and Steer Plus. Only Turf Start, Patio Potting Soil, and ClayBust-R- II™ are fortified with synthetic fertilizer, in addition to organic sources of nitrogen, in order to perform well for their particular use. Rexius fortifies the 100% organic products with a few or more of the following: bone meal, blood meal, kelp, feather meal, cotton seed meal, organic minerals, mycorrhizal fungi, and a variety of manure composts depending on the need and use for that soil or soil amendment. A wide diversity of organic sources is necessary to bring in the many different species of microbes needed for healthy plant growth. All of our soils and compost products are lab tested for nutrition and mineral balance, and tested for proper biological balance in their soil foodweb.

How do I know how much product I need?

If you have an idea how deep you want to spread your mulch or soil, all that is left to figure out is your total square feet of coverage. Start by measuring each individual area by itself by stepping off the length and the width. Each stride you make is approximately 3 feet in length. Multiply the length x width and you get the total square feet for that particular area. Repeat the step for each area to be covered, then add all the totals for your grand total. (Note: Do not add all lengths and multiply by the total of all widths. You will not have a correct total.) Give our Service Representative a call with your total square footage or use our coverage chart to figure total volume. (i.e. 1 cubic yard covers 108 square feet, 3 inches deep)

How much volume can my pickup hold?

A full size 3/4 or 1 ton pickup can hold 3 cubic yards, slightly rounded, but product weight must be considered. Most full size pickups can handle 3 yards of mulch, 2 yards of compost or 1 to 1.5 yards of soil product. If hauling rock product, a full size can handle between .5 and 1 cubic yard. Never load more than what is reasonable or what your vehicle is specified to carry. A smaller compact pickup will haul about 1/2 what a full size pickup will carry.

Do you sell firewood?

At one time Rexius sold large amounts of firewood each year and offered delivery service by the cord. In recent years, as supplies for raw materials declined and use of wood for heat declined, we restricted our sales to fuel pellets. These are available at our direct sales yard at 1250 Bailey Hill Rd., Eugene.
